Software package ORFhunteR for automatic determination of open reading frames in human RNA molecules

Purpose

The ORFhunteR package is intended for use in fundamental and applied (clinical) research related to the study of the transcriptome of normal and abnormal (e.g. cancer) human cells. It enables to automate the procedure of genomic data processing, reduce costs for research and interpretation of the results of the experimental data analysis.

Description

The package includes the latest and most accurate existing methodology for automatic determination of open reading frames (ORF) in a large set of RNA molecules, including the processing of constantly updated experimental databases of next-generation genomic sequencing, transformation and prediction of gene information using advanced machine learning algorithms and subsequent annotation of the coding gene information.

The online version of ORFhunteR package is available.

Advantages over traditional software solutions:
  • enables to conduct high-precision determination of open reading frames of human RNA molecules (during the analysis of more than 170,000 RNA molecules from the NCBI RefSeq and Ensembl databases, the accuracy was 98.3 and 95.5%, respectively);
  • provides fast automatic detection of open reading frames in a large set of RNA molecules (up to 200,000);
  • makes automatic annotation of coding gene information;
  • integrates a set of advanced machine learning algorithms and does not require large computing resources for continuous analysis of RNA molecules;
  • provides the possibility to use the application remotely via Internet;
  • versatility and dissemination potential (as the package includes tools for analyzing and annotation of genetic information).

Application

Health care institutions, scientific organizations
