Sensor system with a USB interface based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy for express evaluation of the viability of microbial populations

Purpose

The sensor system is designed for assessment of the efficiency of the antimicrobial activities. In particular it reveals vital activities of intact microbial populations as well as microbial populations exposed to inactivating factors in the concentrations range of 102 – 109 CFU / ml.

Characteristics

The method of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy used in the system provides information on seven parameters, taking into account the increase possible in a multi-channel measurements. This method detects the activity of microorganisms, connected with the processes peculiar to the early stages of the lag phase.

The system is equipped with the unique software which provides mode-setting and consists of two load modules:
Module №1 – lower electrode placement – 16 cells (sample volume – up to 3 ml)
Module №2 – upper electrode placement – 24 cells (sample volume – up to 6 ml).

Operating frequency range 31.0 ÷ 387.8 kHz
The number of informational parameters 7
Electrodes material stainless steel
Interface of the host-computer interaction USB 2.0
Size 500x300x150 mm

This system was implemented at the Belarusian State University and Belarusian State Medical University.
