Liquid crystal compounds, LC mixtures and liquid crystal


Purpose

Information display electrooptical devices: TN, STN, TFT and FLC, displays and screens of large information capacity (indicators, PC displays, TV screens) of liquid crystals.

Characteristics
LC compositions with the following parameters have been developed

Nematic for TN, VA, IPS modes
  • Temperature area of the current mute phase ( - 50 - 95°С)
  • Threshold voltage 1.3 ÷ 2.3 V
  • Saturation voltage 1.7 ÷ 3.2 V
  • On and off time (on + off) 12 ÷ 25 ms
  • Dielectric anisotropy +5 ÷ +15 or -3 ÷ -7
  • holding ratio (LC mixtures for TFT application) 99.5%

Nematic (1:16) for 2^nd min TN
  • Temperature area of the current mute phase ( - 40 - 90°C)
  • Threshold voltage 1.2 ÷ 2.3 V
  • Slope parameter P10-90 = >0.28 (N10-90 =16)
  • On and off time (on + off) 20 ÷ 40 ms
  • Dielectric anisotropy +9 ÷ +20

Nematic for 180, 240 ° STN
  • Temperature area of the current mute phase ( - 40 - 100°C)
  • Slope parameter P10-90 = 0.03-0.022 (N10-90 =1120 – 2000)
  • Threshold voltage 1.9 ÷ 2.5 V
  • Saturation voltage 1.96 ÷ 2.65 V
  • On and off time (on + off) 120 ms

Ferroelectric for SSFLC
  • Temperature area of the current smectic phase. ( -20 - 90°C)
  • Spontaneous polarization. 25 ÷ 200 nC/cm^2
  • Operating voltage > 2.5 V/mcm
  • On and off time (on + off) 10 ÷ 15 mcs

Ferroelectric for (V-shaped) mode
  • Temperature area of the current smectic phase ( -10 - 80°C)
  • Spontaneous polarization 20 ÷ 150 nC/cm^2
  • Helix pitch distance 0.2 ÷ 1 mcm
  • Operating voltage > 2.5 V/mcm
  • On and off time (on + off) > 10 ÷ 15 mcs

Luminescent displays having advantages over the conventional ones have been developed:

  • low price (absence of polaroids)
  • high brightness and contrast
  • wide view angle

The technologies of obtaining of LC compounds have the following advantages over the conventional ones: исходные
  • source reagents , dissolving agent , catalytic agents etc are available and cheap
  • synthetic schemes at 2-3- stages are shorter and enable to obtain end LC compounds with a higher output
  • the technologies are free from sophisticated stages
